DESENZANO, SEPTEMBER 2007 REVIEW




The event was a BIG SUCCESS!!!

There were more than 30 martial artists of different nationalities and styles that came for the Silat Suffian Bela Diri International Seminar in Italy on the 23rd September 2007.

The event was hosted and organized by Carlo Andries from Desenzano del Garda, Italy.

A majority of the participants were from different parts of Italy, among those that came were also from Slovenia, The Czech Republic, Brazil, Argentina, etc.!!!

Instructors and practitioners from varied martial arts styles attended, from Indonesian Silat, Filipino Kali, Escrima, Jeet Kune Do, Capoeira, Lao Long Dao (vietnamese), Wing Chun Kung Fu, Tao Long Kung Fu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Military Combatives, etc, left their ego at the door and came to experience, give support and exchange ideas.

With the Bruneian flag in the background, the event started out with Guru Maul demonstrating the 1st 2 jurus, with the help of Michele Gammauta as the translator explaining its principles, then applying them by flowing from one sequence of movements to another.

The movements started out with empty hands then translating the same movements by applying them with the sarong, t-shirt and belt. From entering, interception, zoning, continuous striking lines, body positioning and zoning to take-downs, chokes, joint breaking principles and applications. But the most important is the understanding of intention and warrior mind-set.

Everyone who helped Guro Maul in his demonstration especially the instructor candidates showed excellent understanding in their skills.

During practise, Guro Maul takes this time by walking up to every participant and explains even the smallest details and emphasizes the importance of the principles that makes the techniques work.

Guro Maul also demonstrated 2 man fighting strategies found in Silat Suffian Bela Diri using different weapons, the machete, knife, staff and spear principles. He showed how to move offensively in a group of two.

The event started around 9 a.m and finished at 2 p.m. The event finished by leaving the participants wanting to know more about the Silat System from Negara Brunei Darussalam.
