This seminar was hosted and organized by Badradin "Abu Thabit" Oulali, in Neiuwegein, Holland on the 18th and 19th October 2008. Total hours trained - 10 hrs in 2 days.
.
The seminar covered aspects of unarmed blade defence and blade fighting. It as attended by martial artists and instructors from other silat systems.
.
Netherlands (Holland) is known for having a solid ground in Pencak Silat due to its history with Indonesia. I was very nervous on doing a seminar there. But as all traditional silats, "Adat and Hormat" is always part of the culture, I recieved a warm welcome from everyone and that alone says alot.
.
MY APPRECIATION
.
I would like to express foremost my appreciation to Badr for successfully organizing his 1st SSBD seminar, Juan Moreno travelling from Italy, Henrik and his friend from Sweden, Hans Menck and his other half who drove from France, and all the Instructors (whom all are incredible martial artists in their own rights) travelling from other parts of the Netherlands for participating and their openness to accept and invite me to instruct a workshop for them. I will not mention thier arts/system here for sign of respect, unless they want me to mention thier styles. Just to state for the record, that there were individuals from different nationalities and roots attended the seminar, South African, Swedish, Moroccan, Indonesian, Bulgarian, and of course the native Dutch, so this is truely an "international" martial arts seminar. My sincere apologies if I miss anyone, please contact me personally to correct any mistakes.
.
This seminar like my other events aims primarily to raise the curiosity and awareness among people from different nationalities about the martial heritage and culture of Brunei Darussalam in general.
.
I met old friends and made more new friends in the past 2 days, that on its own is a great experience.
.
DAY 1
.
On the first day, we covered empty hands against the knife. Basic body mechanics and movements was instructed to understand intentions of the attacker and the correct body positioning was addressed. Later learning how to counter defences and recountering was also instructed.
.
DAY 2
.
On the morning of this day we covered knife against knife. We started off with basic drills from 3 lines of attacks, and everyting we do on forth would start from this. The participants was instructed the understanding of multiple attacker, awareness and recognizing between friend and enemy - all this at once.
.
Later in the afternoon, after the basic understanding of the drills and excecise was understood, follow ups like strikes disarms, counter disarms, breaks, counter breaks and take-downs was instructed.
.
Feedbacks from the participants were very encouraging, more wanted to know about the Bruneian Martial Arts and the best thing is that the feedbacks are not from someone who doesnt know anything, but from seasoned instructors and experienced martial artists that are dedicated in thier own arts.
